Editing Services

The process for getting your manuscript edited is outlined below.

Estimate:

  • $50 fee for me to review the file. The $50 will be credited to the final invoice if you hire me to edit your file.
  • File must be submitted in digital format, preferably Microsoft Word or a compatible program. No pdfs will be accepted.
  • A portion of the file will be read to determine:
    • Genre – I reserve the right to refuse to edit any manuscript that violates my personal standards of decency and morality in content and/or language.
    • Writing style
    • Types of errors that may be commonly made, i.e. punctuation, grammar, conversational versus formal styles of writing.
  • Corrections will be made, and an estimate made based on time spent for the review.
  • Changes will be made in red font. Any editorial comments will be made in blue font inside of parentheses.
  • Manuscript will be returned after the review, and a “good-faith” cost estimate will be given along with a time range for completion of the project.

 

 Edit:

  • Once the estimate has been reviewed by author and approval for edit has been given, the file will be edited for grammar, sentence structure, and punctuation according to the Chicago Manual of Style guidelines.
  • Charge for editing is a standard $25/hour.

Invoicing:

  • After editing is completed, the file will be returned along with an invoice, payable within 14 days.

  • Formatting of file for publishing – $25
  • Complete file review before publishing – $25
  • Typing a hand-written manuscript – $75/hr
  • Referrals can be made for cover designs.
